Start at Fairview for award-winning wines with artisanal cheese, then stop at Groot Drakenstein, where Nelson Mandela walked free in 1990. In Franschhoek there’s time to wander the village.
Haute Cabrière, with its cellar cut into the mountain and its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, is the main tasting. The day closes at Delaire Graff above Stellenbosch. Lunch and tastings are extra.
