For a wine farm lunch in Stellenbosch, start with Delaire Graff, Tokara, Jordan, Spier, Waterford, Delheim, Simonsig or Rust en Vrede.

Each pairs a tasting room with at least one restaurant, so you can taste and eat without moving the car. They differ a lot in style, from mountain-view fine dining to picnics on the lawn.

Below we cover what each farm offers, who it suits and how to plan the day. Details come from the estates’ own websites, checked in October 2026. Menus, hours and prices change, so confirm with the restaurant before you go.

Quick picks

Stellenbosch wine farms with restaurants

Delaire Graff Estate

Delaire Graff sits on the Helshoogte Pass with views over the Banghoek Valley. It’s known for Cabernet Sauvignon, an art collection and landscaped gardens.

There’s more than one place to eat: the Delaire Graff Restaurant, Hōseki and Lorenzo’s. Tutored tastings run in the Wine Lounge, and walk-ins are welcome there.

In season, the estate stays open into the evening from Monday to Saturday, so it works well for a late lunch or sunset. More about Delaire Graff.

Tokara

Just along the pass, Tokara combines wine, olives and mountain-top views. The tasting lounge is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00.

Tokara has two food options. Tokara Restaurant is the sit-down choice. The Tokara Delicatessen is more casual and has a children’s playground.

Leave time for an olive oil tasting at the Olive Shed, or a walk through the olive groves. More about Tokara.

Jordan Wine Estate

Jordan is a family-run estate with sweeping valley views. It has The Jordan Restaurant and The Cellar Door.

Seated tastings start from R142 per person for the Estate Range (four wines), and booking is required. Cellar and vineyard tours run at set times, and picnic pods are another option.

Families can add kids’ picnic baskets when booking a picnic. More about Jordan.

Spier

Spier has made wine since 1692 and farms regeneratively today. It’s a big, green estate and very family-friendly.

Food options include Vadas Smokehouse & Bakery and the Garden Room, plus picnics on the lawns. Tastings start from R105 per person, and the estate asks guests to book ahead.

Beyond wine, there’s a chocolate and wine tasting, a Segway vineyard tour and food garden walks. Children have the Elemental Garden playground. More about Spier.

Waterford Estate

Waterford is reached along an avenue through citrus orchards. It’s best known for Cabernet Sauvignon and its Wine & Chocolate Experience, which starts from R150.

The estate’s restaurant is SALT. Bookings are required for tastings, and summer hours (1 November to 30 April) run later from Monday to Saturday.

For something different, look at the Wine Drive Safari or the Porcupine Trail Wine Walk. More about Waterford.

Delheim

Delheim is one of the pioneers of wine tourism in Stellenbosch. It’s open daily from 09:00 to 17:00.

Lunch is at The Garden Restaurant. Tastings include a Premium Tasting (R105) and a Reserve Tasting (R165), and there’s a Wine & Fynbos Cupcake Pairing.

If you’d like to walk off lunch, the estate has 5 km and 10 km hiking routes. More about Delheim.

Simonsig

Simonsig made Kaapse Vonkel, South Africa’s first Cap Classique. Its restaurant is Vonkel at Simonsig.

The tasting room is open daily, including public holidays, and tastings start from R150 per person. There’s also a Sip & Paint experience, a disgorging experience and sabrage.

It’s a good choice for a celebration lunch. More about Simonsig.

Rust en Vrede

Rust en Vrede is known for powerful reds, especially Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Its restaurant serves dinner, including a six-course dinner with wine pairing.

At lunchtime, the estate offers a winemaker’s lunch from 12:00 to 15:00. Book ahead for either.

More about Rust en Vrede.

Warwick Wine Estate

Warwick is less a restaurant and more a picnic farm. It serves picnics, burgers and cheese boards, with food and tastings from 10:00 to 16:00.

The vineyard safari drive is a highlight, and the picnic area has a jungle gym for children. More about Warwick.

How to plan a Stellenbosch lunch day

Stellenbosch is about 55 km from Cape Town, typically 45 to 60 minutes by road. See our Stellenbosch region guide for more on the area.

A good rhythm is one tasting in the morning, a long lunch, then one more tasting in the afternoon. Trying to fit in more usually means rushing the meal.

  • Book the restaurant first. Weekends and summer fill up, and some farms require tasting bookings too.
  • Group farms by area. Delaire Graff and Tokara are close together on the Helshoogte Pass. Simonsig, Delheim and Warwick are north of town.
  • Check opening days. Hours differ between the tasting room and the restaurant, and some restaurants are dinner-only.
  • Don’t drive yourself. A tour or driver lets everyone enjoy the wine with lunch.
